Working Group Open House

The Working Group Open House was held on Wednesday, February 2 nd, 2011 at Two Centennial Plaza, 805 Central Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45202,between the hours of 11:00 AM and 7:00 PM to see the work of all 12 Working Groups in one setting.

Working Group Open House allowed all Working Group members to review and comment on the work of all 12 Working Groups at once, instead of holding 12 separate meetings focused on a single element.

The input gathered at the working Group Open House and further refinement of the goals and action steps lead directly to our activities at the second scheduled meeting, the annual Neighborhood Summit.

Housing and Neighborhood Development Public Outreach Meetings

The consultants for Housing and Neighborhood Development, BBC Research & Consulting and Starboard Strategy, developed three outreach sessions to gain public input for the housing market study that is currently being undertaken.

The three scheduled meetings were:

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011 – 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM or

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011 – 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM or

Thursday, January 13th, 2011 – 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM.

All three meetings were held at the same location:

Greater Cincinnati Water Works - 4747 Spring Grove Avenue, Cincinnati, OH 45232

The ultimate goals for these sessions were 1) to understand what Cincinnati residents like best and least about living in the City; 2) to determine what would make the residential experience in Cincinnati better and more competitive with surrounding areas; and 3) to understand what housing types and costs our residents desire.

"PLANTING THE FUTURE" Contest

October 14th to November 12th, 2010

The popularity of the "Planting the Future" art projects conducted at community and recreation centers throughout the summer of 2010 was expanded and designed to complement key learning modules in Cincinnati Public Schools! Students at all grade levels had an opportunity to take an artistic approach in expressing their ideas on how to make Cincinnati a great city.

Students participating in the contest had four venues for expression to address the theme, “How do we make Cincinnati a great City?” which were the following:

  • letter to Mayor Mallory
  • multimedia presentation
  • visual art project
  • painting a flower pot

Planting the Future contest was a collaborative effort between the City of Cincinnati's Department of City Planning and Buildings, Cincinnati Public Schools, and Mayor Mallory's Kitchen Cabinet.

As we plan for Cincinnati's future, many of our Working Groups wanted to gain a better understanding of Cincinnati's budget and our budget process.

We heard questions such as:

  • "Where does our City's revenue come from?"
  • "What are our operating expenses?"
  • "What is the difference between the capital budget and operating budget?"
  • "How much money do we receive from the Federal Government and the State of Ohio?"
  • "How much does the City get from property tax or income tax?"

This forum addressed all these questions and more.
